Editorial policy
The standards this desk works to: sourcing, naming, images, corrections, no paid placement and how the ledger numbers its entries.
This policy describes how The Backlot Ledger is produced. It is public so that a reader can hold the desk to it.
Sourcing
Every factual statement in an entry comes from a source the desk read and can name: a published program, a schedule, a public record, a filing, a rate sheet, a catalog, a book, or an interview that was on the record. Where two sources disagree, the entry says so. Where a number is an estimate, the entry calls it an estimate and says who made it.
Naming a person
A named person appears only where a public record establishes the fact being stated.
Images
Photographs published here are made for this desk or in the public domain, and each one carries a caption that says what it shows.
Corrections and revisions
An entry is dated and numbered. It is revised when a program, a schedule or a public record changes, and the revision carries the date it was made. A correction that changes a fact is published as a correction, not applied silently. When the desk learns that a claim cannot be supported, it removes the claim and says that it removed it.
How entries are numbered
Each entry carries a two-letter rubrique code and a sequence number (SC-001 for screens, SO-001 for sound, PE-001 for the people desk, RC-001 for the look). The number is stable: it does not change when an entry is revised.
